Controlled Indoor Air Quality: Protecting Wine from Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
The air in a wine cellar is naturally exposed to volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These substances can come from various sources: the outside environment, certain materials found in the cellar, or elements related to the bottles, such as the adhesives used on the labels.
Since corks are not completely airtight, VOC molecules can gradually penetrate the bottle through nano-infiltration. These compounds can cause unwanted odors and disrupt the wine’s natural aging process.
To minimize their presence, EuroCave has developed a patented woven activated-carbon filter, specifically designed to purify the air inside the Royale wine cellar.
The results demonstrate exceptional effectiveness:
- 74% of VOCs are captured after 3 months of use,
- Odors and potential toxicity are reduced by half after just 72 hours,
